5GCのSBIインターフェースを理解する最も簡単な方法は、実践的な疑問から始めることです。なぜ5G Coreには新しい連携モデルが必要だったのでしょうか。5G以前のモバイルコアネットワークは、通常、参照点アーキテクチャで説明されていました。各ネットワーク要素の組み合わせは、LTE/EPCにおけるMMEとHSS間のS6aのように、定義済みのインターフェースを通じて通信していました。このポイントツーポイントモデルは図示しやすく説明も容易でしたが、ネットワーク機能とサービス要件が多様化するにつれて柔軟性が不足するようになりました。

参照点方式が制約となった理由

ネットワーク要素間の連携関係が安定し予測可能である場合、参照点アーキテクチャはうまく機能しました。MMEがHSSと通信する必要があれば、S6a参照点がその関係を表しました。SGWがPGWと通信する必要があれば、別の参照点がその経路を表しました。このモデルでは、アーキテクチャを視覚的かつ直接的に示すことができました。

問題は拡張性です。アーキテクチャと参照点が仕様の特定リリースで固定されると、新しい通信関係を追加することが難しくなります。たとえば、既存の定義済みインターフェースを持たない2つのネットワーク機能間に新たな要件が生じても、標準アーキテクチャに適切な対応方法がない場合があります。ベンダーは独自方式を実装できますが、独自方式は相互運用性を低下させ、ネットワークの発展を難しくします。

5G Coreは、モバイルブロードバンド、IMS、ネットワークスライシング、ポリシー制御、エッジサービス、エクスポージャ機能、柔軟な加入者データ処理など、より広範なサービスを想定して設計されました。固定的なポイントツーポイントモデルでは、この発展が複雑になります。SBIでは、ネットワーク機能が複数のサービスを提供し、認可されたサービス利用側のネットワーク機能が必要に応じて呼び出せるため、この問題を解決できます。

マイクロサービスで理解するSBI

分かりやすい例として銀行の窓口があります。顧客から見ると、窓口は現金引き出しサービスを提供します。内部処理を経理担当者、窓口担当者、管理者、あるいは複数の担当者が行うかを顧客が知る必要はありません。顧客にとって重要なのは、依頼が受け付けられ、処理され、完了することです。

UDMは良い例です。4Gでは、MMEがS6aインターフェースを通じてHSSの多くの機能にアクセスしていました。5Gでは、関連する能力が個別のUDMサービスとして公開されます。たとえば、UE登録情報を扱うUECM、加入者データ管理を行うSDM、認証関連データを扱うUEAuthenticationがあります。認可されたネットワーク機能は、定義済みの規則に従ってこれらのサービスを利用できます。
